2. How this film was produced? (4 marks)
This movie was shot in Sadar Town Karachi in January,
2014. The script was written years before the shooting. It is the one of few pictures
that is produced entirely in Pakistan with an expenditure of ₨. 9 crore (which was one of the enormous budgeted film completed
in Pakistan) jointly franchised by Hum Films, Filmwala Pictures and
Eveready Pictures.
In
year 2012, Nabeel Qureshi director of telfilms at a comedy show Banan News
Network had an initiative of making a film with the screenwriter and producer
Fizza Ali. As per director account the idea originates in a casual conversation
with Fizza about banks, lockers and their insurance which finalized with the
name of “Na Maloom Afraad”. Nabeel and Fizza co-write the film in 2013 prior to
Ramzan. Fizza and her brother financed the movie Rana Kamran was declared the
director of the photography of the film.
3. What effect it can cause on its
audience? (4 marks)
Na Maloom Afraad starts exceptionally well and within
first few minutes it engages the audience like an interesting book that spell
bounds the person who reads. Towards the end film takes audience to that stage where
they can enjoy and surely will wholeheartedly appreciate the good working of
filmmaker. Na Maloom Afraad is indeed good film and bold enough to stand and
earn the attention of viewers. This is of course entertaining film which gives
an idea that how much talent exists in Pakistani cinema and film makers. The
good thing is that the recently rejuvenated Pakistani cinema is trying its
level best to produce movies of all types for the audience.
There is lot of comedy and entertaining movements for audience. Acting was good, camera work was also nice, music was awesome. Everybody in the cinema can enjoy. It is the first movie ever which is showing the humor of Pakistan that is really good. After “Na Maloom Afraad” starring Fahad Mustafa, Javed Sheikh and Mohsin Abbas Haider in lead roles appeared as a flourishing success at the box office, it's selection for SAIFF doesn't surprise. Na Maloom Afraad is a vigorously-crafted film, which guarantees a paisa-vasool (money earning) experience. From the item number to the one-liners, every scene has a purpose and reveals something about the ongoing social circus in the country. "Na Maloom Afraad is an out-and-out entertainer, which due to the catchy promos, strong word of mouth and excited audiences. It’s an all-out, tongue-in-cheek, cleverly-crafted entertainer that can affect audience pining for more movies of the same variety.
4. How much improvement has been made in
the film industry of Pakistan in comparison to Bollywood? 4 marks)
In my opinion Pakistan film industry has not produced quality
oriented movies in terms of script, performances and tone since the last few
years. However, Khuda Kay Liay, Bol, Yeh Dil Aapka Hua and some other movies
were little bit technically and script-wise better including performance of
actors that was worth seeing. Rest of the movies, sorry to say, were typical
formula based having no attraction to their audience. Improvement has been made
in the film industry of Pakistan but still not up to required standards. Only
technology, equipment and techniques used for production and composing of film
have been improved but as far as actors, acting, direction, seen selection and
story concern, no satisfactory improvement has been made till now.
Actually
Lollywood is not an industry until the government does not treat and support it
as an industry but it has more bright future. It requires more investors and
enhancement of educational level of film stars and film makers. Coaching club
may help to improve different term of film production such as expression of
actors, dance, dressing, seen decoration etc.
In comparison to Lollywood, Bollywood film industry
has much advance technology and higher standard of acting for production of
international standard and attractive movies. By enhancing its influence manifold
Bollywood is also offering joint production with Hollywood and China. Many
times Bollywood actors have performed in Hollywood movies and similarly many
Hollywood stars have played their roles in Bollywood. Movies produced by Bollywood
even after passing 20-25 year are viewed and considered always great. Bollywood
is the 2nd biggest film industry after Hollywood. On the other hand
Lollywood may not be considered as an industry.
It may be easily noticed that Lollywood is involved in
plagiarism from Bollywood while producing films although Bollywood itself
copies the ideas and techniques of Hollywood. The reason behind this is that in
Pakistan, the film industry has neither developed as an industry nor has the
perception of an artist. It'll take time for society to evolve and learn to
appreciate art and artists. Bollywood gives its stars value and appreciation.
I'm not saying we don't get admiration and importance at home; it was Pakistan
and Pakistanis alone who gave a lot of such stars their initial recognition. However,
to get to the next level, they had to make that leap and cross over to India. There's
no harm in accepting that our industry will take time to develop and it is
working towards it. It's a process, a journey and it will eventually happen.
5. Do you think this film meets the
international requirements of film making? (4 marks)
This was a better visuals movie having nice acting by
the leading roles. In my opinion there are lot of plus points in this film but still
many improvements are required to meet the international standard of film
making. In the film some roles seemed to lack a little consistency (Like Moon's
voice). The story was not the smoothest as compared to international movies. The
scene of Moon's relative who is presumably death, (when the child calls Moon
and he asks to Farhan how much share he will get) as that scene lefts you
wondering for completion. A scene that starts with the mosque speaker sounding
of a missing child seems linked to the previous scene but not! Some scenes were
unnecessarily Bollywoodish even Naina's dressing was similar to some Kareena
Kapoor reflection. Lacking in originality but the story is stitched in a movie
reel that deserves watching only for its visual arts!
One problem
of the film was editing owing to length and pacing slow. At least a half hour
of the film should have been edited out, which incorporated many scenes from
the Naina-Farhan romance point of view, Billi’s role (except the item song!)
and a few other boring, uninteresting and needless scenes. This film seemed to
be as Hera Pheri and Delhi Belly and it borrows some elements from these films.
The most
excellent object about this movie is the cinematography that was about touching
to worldwide standard. Music was better and acting was perfect apart from Urwa
and Kubra. Specially Kubra's bank manager avatar, were a tad too feebly acted
for the script while Billi, her sultry item song was a cherry-topping for the film.
I have seen lot of item songs of Hollywood films and I can surly comment that
Mehwish Hayat's Billi trumps them all. It was unsophisticated and very appealing.
It is also a fun watching and reflects Pakistani culture with new faces on
large screen. I hope that Pakistani cinema will flourish with this movie. The
legend actor Javed Sheikh's performance commendable and Fahad Mustafa and
Mohsin Abbas have also done a great justice to their rolls. I like the cute
romance between Farhan and Naina. I really enjoyed the movie and I would
suggest everyone to watch this movie at least once.
