PM NAWAZ SHARIF CONFERENCE ON
PAKISTAN’S COUNTER TERRORISM AND EXTREMISM STRATEGY
1. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif called
a conference on Thursday, 11 August, 2016 at PM House Islamabad to identify the
national plan of action on counter-terrorism and destroy hardcore terrorists,
and defend the nation. The PM vowed to crush terrorism and not
get terrorized by it and added that “We’ll take the battle to destruction of
terrorists and not only fight terrorism but will also prevent it,” the PM said
in his opening remarks at the follow-up meeting on the accomplishment of
National Action Plan on counter terrorism and extremism. Chief of the Army
Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General ISI Lt. Gen. Rizwan Akhtar and
Director General ISPR Maj. Gen. Asim Bajwa were present at the meeting.
Governor Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab and political ministers Ishaq Dar,
Pervaiz Rasheed, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan, Khwaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal and Lt Gen (Retd)
Abdul Qadir Baloach also attended the conference.
2. The
Prime Minister said the country’s whole political field is united in battle against
terrorism and extremism and will attain victory by taking efficient actions at correct
occasion and our fight is in opposition to abhorrence, horror and terrorism.”
The PM said no one could stay dispassionate in this combat against terrorists
and the government would support the military services and law enforcement
agencies to persist the motherland and the children safe in the days and years
to come. He said battle against terrorists would be fought holistically through
diplomacy, intelligence, law enforcement and armed forces. The Prime Minister
said the government would ensure that there is no difference among those who
committed terrorism and those who sheltered them. “We will make sure the
sacrifices of our law enforcement agencies and the blood spilled in Peshawar
does not go waste,” he said. The accomplishment of National Action Plan is
being handled as main concern and the Prime Minister has been holding regular
meetings not to ignore the execution of National Action Plan.
